Wash Day Blues

Wash Day Blues by Andy Slater

This drawing, which is 26cm wide by 19cm high and done using red pencil on cartridge paper, is another piece from my time at the Saturday morning art class and is another example of a boring black and white photograph that I was given to 'draw as homework'.

The teacher was very impressed and said that the descision to do it in red made what would have otherwise been a somewhat boring drawing into something rather intriguing. I had to confess that it wasn't so much a 'decision' as a 'fluke' because I had in fact done it in red pencil as a protest at having to draw it in the first place.

It is a 'trick' that I have since employed on a number of occasions to 'liven up' dull subjects.
